Overview of Commercial Solutions for WebXR
WebXR refers to the use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) within a web browser environment. This Wiki page gathers information about commercial solutions that simplify the development and deployment of WebXR applications.

Selecting the Right Solution
There are several solutions available on the market that simplify the development and operation of AR applications. Although the final "product" may appear identical at first glance, there are significant differences between these solutions, particularly in:
- Development approach
- Operational method
- Operating costs
- Offered features and their quality
Selecting the right solution is a crucial decision that significantly impacts:
- Application quality and performance
- Operational costs
- User experience for both developers and end users

BlippAR.com
Blippar.com can be used to develop WebAR applications in three ways:
BLIPPBUILDER Platform
The BLIPPBUILDER platform is a simple UI tool for creating WebAR applications, similar to Web-AR.studio, which can be used by anyone regardless of experience. However, its downside is the limited customization options.
Usage Costs
Since 15 April 2026 (Blippar 2.0), BLIPPBUILDER is no longer free. Paid plans start at around £7.99 per month for publishing a project, the Pro plan supports up to 5 published projects and Enterprise plans for larger portfolios are available on request.
WebAR SDK
The BlippAR WebAR SDK is compatible with popular frameworks like A-Frame, Babylon.js, PlayCanvas, and Unity Engine, making it suitable for WebAR development in these frameworks. This approach provides more flexibility and advanced features compared to the proprietary BLIPPBUILDER tool.
Usage Costs
The WebAR SDK from BlippAR offers a trial tier (100 views); for deployment you can choose the Creative licence with 1000 views per month for £100 per month or the Commercial licence with unlimited views for £250 per month. Blippar also lists a pay-as-you-go model billed per view.
Custom Development
Blippar also offers custom WebAR application development services.
Compared to other solutions, Blippar's tracking performs slightly slower, resulting in a worse UX. Additionally, its documentation is somewhat weaker.
Onirix.com
Onirix offers the Onirix Scene Editor for creating WebAR applications directly in the browser. The Scene Editor also provides access to code, enabling additional custom modifications.
Usage Costs
Onirix can be tried for free (15-day trial). The Starter licence costs €45 per month billed yearly (€90 monthly), includes 5 projects and 200 views per month and is meant for internal development and demos, not for commercial projects for end users. The commercial Professional licence costs €299 per month billed yearly (€598 monthly) with 50 projects and 10,000 views per month, self-hosting via the Engine SDK and branding removal. Enterprise (from 100,000 views per month) is available on request. For industry, Onirix offers separate Plus plans (from €449 per month) with Spatial AR, wayfinding and import of BIM models or e57 scans.
Zap.works
Zappar.com boasts the title "World Leading XR Solutions," encompassing the following services:
- ZapWorks – All-in-one WebAR platform.
- ZapBox – Headset leveraging mobile phones.
- ZapVision – WebAR application for the visually impaired.
Zap.works provides several tools to simplify WebAR application development:
Zapworks Designer
A tool for creating 3D web content without coding knowledge.
Mattercraft
Mattercraft streamlines the creation of rich 3D web experiences with an intuitive interface, powerful animation system, live previews, and one-click deployment.
Zapworks Package / Library
Zapworks provides integration solutions with popular frameworks such as Unity Engine, Three.js, PlayCanvas, and Babylon.js.
Usage Costs
The Developer plan (€11.99 per month, €59.99 per year) is for non-commercial use only. The commercial Pro plan costs €300 per month (€2,500 per year) and includes 12,000 views per year (1,000 per month), with each additional 1000 views for €25. Companies with revenue or funding above $10 million must use the Enterprise plan with custom pricing, which also covers full white-labeling and custom hosting. All plans now include credits for the AI assistant in Mattercraft. More details can be found in the pricing list.
Similar to BlippAR, Zappar also operates its own creative studio offering custom WebAR application development.
Web-AR.studio
Web-AR.Studio publishes AR projects directly in the mobile browser, inside its AR Studio Viewer app or via an SDK embedded in your own app. Earlier, browser-only viewing was limited to QR codes; today the platform lists QR, image, AR 360°, SLAM, face tracking, GEO AR and VPS tracking in the mobile browser.
Development approach and openness
AR applications are built in the Web-AR.studio web editor through a no-code UI, extended by a visual logic editor and generative AI (3D models, images, video). This allows creation without programming, but limits functionality to the tools available in the editor.
Background
According to its LinkedIn profile, Web-AR Studio is based in New York, with a team made up mostly of Russian developers. Russian is also one of the main language versions of the website, which may be controversial for some target groups given the current geopolitical situation.
Usage costs
Web-AR.Studio offers subscriptions (Solo creator, Startup / Agency, Brand, Enterprise) as well as pay-as-you-go; educational licences start at $5 per month and basic features are free. See the current prices in the pricing list.
8th Wall (hosted platform discontinued)
Niantic Spatial shut down the hosted 8th Wall platform on 28 February 2026. Since then it is no longer possible to create an account, log in, edit, create or export projects in the cloud editor and XR Studio. Already published projects keep running until 28 February 2027 at the latest; after that the hosting services will be decommissioned and remaining project data deleted. The paid licences and price list therefore no longer apply.
The engine core has been released as open source under the MIT licence (World Tracking / SLAM, Image Targets, Face Effects, Sky Effects) and can still be used in your own self-hosted projects - without support or further development by the original operator.
What it means for new projects
- Don't start new commercial WebAR projects on 8th Wall; existing projects need to be migrated by February 2027.
- Supported alternatives are the platforms listed above (Zapworks, Onirix, Blippar), open-source libraries such as MindAR or AR.js, or the open-source 8th Wall engine itself.
Background
8th Wall was acquired by Niantic in 2022. After Niantic sold its games business (2025), the technology moved to the newly spun-off Niantic Spatial, focused on geospatial AI and VPS.

WebAR.rocks
Vyvíjí vlastní, lehké, samostatné a efektivní řešení.
WebAR.rocks knihovny jsou dostupné na Githubu.
